David and Sarah Lucky - What's Your Story?

by FBC Plano on April 04, 2025

When we joined the church in 2017, we had just married and moved 1,000 miles across the country, leaving our family and friends to start out brand new. To settle into our new community, we knew we needed to find a support system here, so we started exploring different churches.

We’ll never forget the first Sunday we walked into First Baptist Plano. We were greeted by smiles, waves, and handshakes from members at the door, and it immediately felt like home – which was a unique experience compared to other churches we had visited. But the most memorable thing was the couple who sat in front of us – Don and Nancy Boyd – who wasted no time greeting us after the last hymn was sung. They immediately pulled us to the front to meet with church leadership and help set us up in a Sunday School class. From there, as they say, the rest is history.

Throughout our time in Texas, this church has been so much more than the support system we set out looking for. It has turned into our Texas family. Our girls have their “Texas grandparents,” and we have friends who are experienced in raising children and can be sounding boards for what we are going through. We have ministers who care about us, have supported us in incredibly hard times, and celebrated with us in incredibly good times. We say with the utmost confidence that Texas would not feel like home if it weren’t for this church – and the people who make it up.

As much as this church has given to us, it is important that we give back in the ways we can. Supporting the church in even the smallest way allows us to help the church reach families in the same situation we were in, who need that support system and family. As it comes time to kick off the “From His Hand” campaign, we would like to serve as a reminder that there are families out there like us who need this church – and giving what you can will help reach them.
